2019917日上午1000,英国卡迪夫大学的戚虹博士将于闻天楼南楼208会议室做“Gravitational Wave Astronomy”的报告。欢迎大家前来聆听报告!

摘要The first direct detection of gravitational wave signal GW150914 marked the era of gravitational wave astronomy. Since then LIGO and Virgo have been detecting gravitational wave events regularly. The unprecedented observation of binary neutron star merger GW170817 with its electromagnetic counterpart NGC4993 pushed our exploration of the Universe further into the era of multi-messenger astronomy. The observations of compact binary system mergers and the confrontation of general relativity with these observations have enabled us to probe and learn much fundamental physics and new cosmology. With improved sensitivity, more ground-based detectors, and space-based detectors in different frequency bands, it will be more promising for us to listen to and complement our picture of the Universe and its evolution.

简历:Dr. Hong Qi is currently a postdoctoral research associate at Cardiff University in UK. She finished her PhD in Physics in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Brady at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in US. Prior to that she did her Master’s in Astrophysics in the National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences and her Bachelor’s in Space Engineering in Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She has been a member of LIGO Scientific Collaboration since 2015 and is part of its Parameter Estimation group and Cosmology group. She has been a member of Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) consortium since 2018. She is also a member of UK-China Gravitational-wave Excellence through Alliance Training (GrEAT) Network.
